Obituary for Saraellen Weyman

Saraellen Weyman, 94, died at The Grove in Harmony on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

Born January 13, 1924 in Rochester, Beaver County, she was the daughter of the late Elder and Edith Griffin.

She celebrated over 68 years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late Edward J. Weyman, whom she married July 5, 1941.

Mrs. Weyman was a long-distance telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. during her husband’s service in World War II. She centered her attention on her family following the war, utilizing her gifted seamstress skills to provide clothing, crafts, costumes, and heirloom hand-sewn quilts for her family and friends. She found time to work part-time jobs, which included waitressing, retail clerk, census-taker, and motel maid to buy the “extras” for her family.

Family was always her focus and she served as a 4-H volunteer, cub scout leader, home room mother, and chauffer for her children, as well as caretaker for her mother.

A member of St. Peter’s Reformed Church for over 70 years, Mrs. Weyman served her church as Sunday School teacher; a member of the Women’s Fellowship; the Share, Pair and Care Program; and the Fidelity Sunday School Class.

She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Weyman enjoyed playing “500” in card clubs with her friends, traveling to Florida each winter, and the activities at “My Day Out” at Passavant Retirement Center.

She is survived by a son, Jim Weyman and his wife, Linda, of Hilliard, OH; a daughter, Sue Hamilton and her husband, Wesley, of Harmony; and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Weyman of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren who all share in wonderful memories of days spent with Grandma playing games; 11 beloved great-grandchildren to whom she was “GG;” and many special nephews and nieces.

Her son, Gary Weyman, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Griffin and Elden Griffin, and a sister, Doris Griffin.

Friends will be received from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Peter’s Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063, with Rev. James R. Bertoti, officiating.
A private interment will be held at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Reformed Church.
